The Brow Chakra

Dear Hearts,

Today we are moving on up to the sixth chakra, the Brow Chakra, also known as our third eye. It is called Ajna in Sanskrit, meaning command or perception. It is located between the eyebrows and is related to our sixth sense of intuition and foresight. It governs self-awareness, higher wisdom, visualization, clarity, discernment, imagination and creative dreaming.

It is represented by the colour indigo and has a feminine energy.

The symbol for the third eye is a circle with two lotus petals, representing the two hemispheres of the brain. Circles represents wholeness or femininity. When we bring our duality together, such as our masculinity and femininity, creativity and rationality, physicality and spirituality, it brings wholeness and completion as this chakra is focused on our oneness and not our individuality. There is a silver downward triangle symbolizing the downward energy of spirit.

This chakra is related to the “supreme element” which is the combination of all the elements in their pure form. It is everything. In other words, the element of this chakra is light.

When this chakra is out of alignment you can experience a variety of psychological, mental, emotional and spiritual issues.

An unhealthy third eye means you lack vision for your life in that there is no clarity, no clear direction or path and you may feel stuck. Illness related to this chakra are headaches, poor vision, sties, and mental illness.

A balanced third eye enables you to see the connections between everything and have a sense of oneness with nature and the spiritual world. You are able to discern the truth.

Gifted children began appearing in the late 1970’s and became known as indigo children. These children are open to the spirit world. They are old souls and their mission is to shake up the modern world and pave the way for future generations to create greater harmony and peace for all humankind. Indigochildren are thought to have supernatural powers and are sent from God to upgrade life as we know it by uplifting humanity and leading us towards the light.

Ann Tapp, a parapsychologist and psychic, who studied human auric fields, noticed that a lot of children were being born with indigo auras from 1978 into the late 1980’s. They express extreme empathy, sensitivity, a high level of intuition and psychic ability, an innate spirituality, a deep desire to help the world, a special bond with animals and nature, stubbornness, a feeling of being an outsider as well as the overall knowingness that they are unique and meant to do big things.

Are you an indigo child or do you know someone who may be an indigo child?

If you are empathic, curious and strong willed, have a high IQ, are inherently intuitive and are resistant to authority you may well be an Indigo child. Indigo children come to earth to help others by speaking their truth and they cannot tolerate injustice or lies of any kind.

Some believe that tapping into our inner voice is tapping into the voice of God or your Higher Power.

Yoga poses, such as the fish pose, shoulder stand and child pose are ways of moving energy though this area.

Here are some journal prompts to help you open your third eye.

Do I believe in my inner guidance?

Am I open to messages from my higher self?

What do I “see” when I close my eyes in meditation?

Am I listening to my higher wisdom?

What is my intuition telling me right now?

Take five minutes to ponder each question and five minutes to journal about it.

Keeping a dream journal can be helpful in gaining wisdom and opening this chakra.

Here are some affirmations for the third eye:

I honour and trust my intuition

I learn from my experience

I am connected to the universe

I have clarity and peace of mind

I look both inward and outward for wisdom

I am receiving and I am trusting

If you have an overactive third eye you may live in a fantasy world, have lack of vision, clarity and don’t know yourpurpose in life.

Aromatherapy oils to open your third eye are frankincense, rosemary, sandalwood, patchouli and myrrh. Crystals such as tanzanite, sapphire and lapis lazuli help align the third eye, as does including deep blue and purple foods into your diet, such as blueberries and eggplant.

Learning about the brow chakra feels like coming home to me. I feel more comfortable in the spiritual realm of the higher chakras than in the physical realms of the lower chakras. I have always been very much in my head and grounding myself to the earth has helped bring myself out of my head and into the present moment. I can see now how all the chakras work together to bring about wholeness to our energy system.

How about you? Do some chakras feel more comfortable to you and others feel like you need to do some more work on them in order to open up more fully?

If anything the pandemic has taught us that we are all one. According to the enlightened masters this feeling of oneness is what being enlightened is all about.

I already have my sacred altar table set up to honour and celebrate the three upper chakras of our chakra system so I refreshed my table by adding some indigo pansies from my garden and lit my indigo candle to evoke awareness to my third eye.

Thank you for journeying with me on our journey through the chakras. If you take one thing from this post may that be my gift to you.

From my heart to yours,

In love and light,
